Books, Coffee, and Community — On the Move

Abi’s Books & Brews, The Milena Chapter is the nonprofit arm of Abi’s, created to take free books, literacy outreach, and pay-what-you-can coffee beyond our café walls and into neighborhoods across our community.

We’ve seen how a warm cup of coffee creates space for conversation, reading, and connection — and we’re building a mobile version of that experience.

Why We Started This Way

Before asking the community to help fund this, Abi’s invested first so we could move quickly and show real commitment — not just an idea.

Abi’s has already invested about $21,000.

This covers core equipment, books, coffee supplies, legal setup, and the initial mobile coffee cart build.

What’s Already in Place

  • Professional espresso machine and coffee equipment
  • Initial book inventory for free and low-cost distribution
  • Starter mobile coffee cart
  • Payment, licensing, and operational setup

What Still Needs Community Support

  • A small, fully converted mobile truck platform
  • Final coffee and water system components
  • Book shelving and interior build-out
  • Branding and a modest contingency for surprises

Total remaining to complete the mobile setup: $25,000

This completes a self-contained mobile book café and bookmobile that can serve both community outreach and sustainable events.

How the Community Can Be Part of It

As we move forward, support will take a few forms — depending on what feels right for each person:

  • Simple donations
  • $25 community shares that help fund the build
  • Participation in helping guide where and how we serve

More details are coming soon. For now, we’re sharing where we are — and why this is being built together.
